Many people pay EUR 1,000-2,000 too much for a home battery — simply because installation costs and consumer unit upgrades weren't in the first quote. Here are the real numbers. A 5 kWh battery costs EUR 4,500-6,500 including installation. For 10 kWh you're looking at EUR 5,000-10,000, and for 20 kWh EUR 8,000-12,000. VAT on a home battery is 21%, but with a dynamic energy contract you can reclaim it from the tax authority. De wet maakt een einde aan saldering in een keer - geen geleidelijke afbouw. Na die datum levert teruggeleverde stroom nog maar € 0,05-0,07 per kWh op, terwijl je voor inkoop € 0,25-0,35 betaalt. Elke kWh die je opslaat in plaats van teruglevert, bespaart je direct geld.
Een thuisbatterij valt onder 21% BTW - het 0%-tarief geldt alleen voor zonnepanelen zelf. Maar met een dynamisch energiecontract en EMS kun je de BTW terugvragen bij de Belastingdienst, in één keer, met 5-jaars herzieningstermijn. Op een batterij van € 8.000 is dat € 1.680 terug.
De prijs per kWh opslagcapaciteit is in 5 jaar gezakt van € 1.200 naar € 450-700. Maar die trend keert om: China heeft per 1 april 2026 de exportsubsidies op batterijen met circa 33% verlaagd (van 9% naar 6%) en per 2027 verdwijnen ze volledig. Verwachte prijsstijging: 10-15% op thuisbatterijen. Wachten wordt duurder, niet goedkoper.
Met een dynamisch energiecontract verdien je extra aan je batterij door slim te laden bij lage prijzen en te ontladen bij hoge. Dat levert € 200-500 per jaar extra op, bovenop de besparing op eigenverbruik.
Het stroomnet raakt vol. 14.044 bedrijven staan op de wachtlijst voor een netaansluiting, en ook in woonwijken wordt zonnestroom steeds vaker afgekapt bij netoverbelasting. Met een thuisbatterij sla je die stroom op in plaats van die te verliezen.

In 2021 you paid around EUR 1,200 per kWh of storage capacity. In 2026 that's EUR 450-700. But that decline is stopping: China halved its export subsidies on batteries on 1 April 2026, and they disappear entirely by 2027. Expected price increase: 10-15% on home batteries. Add rising raw material costs and the end of net metering on 1 January 2027 — and it becomes clear that waiting is now costing you twice over. With 163,500 installed home batteries in the Netherlands (Energienerds, 2026), the technology is proven and mainstream.
